Pharmacological action (Liptor)
Hypocholesterolemic. Competitive selectively inhibits gidroksimetilglutaril-CoA (HMG-CoA) reductase, which converts 3-hydroxy-3-methylglutaryl-CoA to mevalonic acid (a precursor of sterols, including cholesterol).
